| How are you collaborating with other Non-Profits and School Organizations in the Virginia Peninsula Community? | The Marching Band reaches out to the community through public performances. This year the band has participated in the Neptune Festival Parade, the Coliseum Central Parade, and will participate in the HollyDays Parade. Moreover, the band supports the Phoebus High School football team at all Home games and encourages school spirit and morale through pep rallies. |
| How will the Project/Program sustain or grow the community of the Virginia Peninsula of Hampton Roads? | Phoebus High School has over 50% free and reduced school lunch eligibility. The students supported by these monies frequently have little adult support, guidance, and mentoring. The students' morale has soared as they have received new instruments, new uniforms, and new equipment. For instance, the flag line received new flags through the last grant cycle. The girls walked taller and held their heads higher as they proudly displayed whole, non-tattered flags at games and parades. The kids are thrilled to know people in the community support them and are eager to return the kindness with a renewed pride in themselves and their place as responsible, giving members of their community. Several are working to serve as Community Knights volunteers when they are able and are can get a ride. |
| Please give a brief description of how the Project/Program will be planned, organized and executed? | Mr. Ricks, Phoebus High School band director, will purchase music, instruments, uniforms, and other band related items once monies are awarded. The items purchased become part of the Phoebus High School band inventory. |
| Please add any additional information you would like to share. | Phoebus High School band would like to express sincere thanks for the support we have received from Community Knights. The kids are thrilled with the awards they have received and the new equipment purchased for them to use. They are growing in respect for one another and the adult mentors who work with them. They are feeling loved, supported, and cared for. Thank you for shining a light in their lives. |
