Description of Organization's Main Mission

Colony Pool is one of the oldest (almost 50 years) and largest pools in the area. We are currently the only neighborhood pool with a high dive. We welcome families from all over the peninsula to become members. We also have a 2016 Championship Red Division Swim Team of GPSA. We strive to provide a safe, fun and enjoyable family atmosphere for our community to spend the summer.

There is a core group of members of Colony Pool who are committed to volunteer to earn grant money to support Colony Pool. We hope that we can continue to improve the pool in many ways. The Pool is open to the surrounding neighbors of Colony Pool as well as the Hampton Roads Community. The number of neighborhood pools in the area is declining and we want to ensure our pool continues to function as a safe place for our families to enjoy for many summers to come.

in late 2016 , several of the high school age members started a program for Winter Games Days. On select Sundays throughout the winter months, the kids open up the barn, for a nominal fee for games. This is open to any and all kids. We have an indoor basketball game, ping pong tables, board games, card games, and gaming systems with couches and big screen TV. (most items were donated to the pool). Starting in February 2017, we opened our field to Menchville's Lacrosse team for practice purposes.
We are also working with a local girl scout troop to use our location/facilities to sell girl scout cookies.

How will the Project/Program use the requested grant funds to directly benefit the citizens of the Virginia Peninsula of Hampton Roads?

Re-paving the Parking lot will not only add to our neighborhood beautification efforts, it will also provide safer access for NNPS Bus stop services during the school year and to the pool during the summer. The lawn equipment will replace the unreliable and dilapidated mower that we currently have and we hope to purchase a blower, edger and few other handy tools. Lawn care maintenance is usually performed by a few of our dedicated members/neighbors of the pool. This past summer, many of these guys ad gals brought their own equipment from their respective homes. This past summer we painted and re-surfaced the floors of the bathrooms, but we still need to replace/purchase and install urinals, sinks, and faucets as well as fix a few plumbing issues that due to lack of funds

How will the Project/Program sustain or grow the community of the Virginia Peninsula of Hampton Roads?

Colony Pool strives to offer summer fun for any and all members of our greater community. We are open from Memorial Day through Labor day. We are currently discussing some community outreach projects for the Spring and Summer to collect canned goods for the Peninsula Food Bank. In the Spring we plan to hold our 2nd Annual Easter Egg Hunt and Pancake Breakfast for the community as well. New this Winter, we have a team of Teens who have cleaned up the upstairs portion of the Barn and are offering Admission to our community kids on Sunday Afternoons for a fun and safe place for kids to hang out during the off-season for Ping Pong, Air Hockey, Billiards, Cards, Board Games, Wii and both Indoor & Outdoor Basketball. And for the first time, this past December we offered Gift Wrap services to anyone who would like to drop off their Holiday packages.

Please give a brief description of how the Project/Program will be planned, organized and executed?

The Members of the Board work year-round to ensure that the pool is taken care of. The members at Large worked hard this summer to complete some of the necessary repairs and improvements to the pool. As a team, we have prioritized the needs of the pool however most if not all of those needs will have to wait. We are hoping that this and Future CK Grant rewards, we will be financially able to complete many more of our growing list of repairs and improvements.

Please add any additional information you would like to share.

On behalf of Colony Pool, we commend Community Knights Bingo, specifically Jennifer Brown and Teresa Michener for creating an unmatched fundraising opportunity to the many struggling non-profit organization on the Peninsula.
