Newsome-Bailey Project

The Newsome-Bailey Project is directly involved with the citizens of the Southeast Community of Newport News, VA. Our mission is to help underserved elementary school students to become capable learners. We provide educational therapies, tutoring and mentoring to students from low-income households who struggle in core academic subject in school. We also work with parents to better help their students to learn.

Marshall Early Learning Center ‘22-23 School Year Tutors/Volunteers Needed
-TUTOR PS and Kindergarteners in reading skills, letter sounds. Training will be provided.
Daytime Hours can be any or all M-F 8:30AM-10:00 AM, beginning November 7, 2022.

Volunteers may also choose to drive less than a mile to Newsome-Park Elementary and work Early Afternoon Shifts with THIRD graders from 10:15-11:45 AM M-F, beginning OCT 17, 2022.
Curriculum Provided by NNPS Reading Specialists or classroom teacher:

GED Tutors are also needed at YouthBuild To work with 16-24 year olds. If you are interested in working mornings Monday through Thursday from nine to noon; or afternoons from 12:45 to 2 PM, please let us know.

After PALS testing is completed by the district, we’ll tutor PS and K students who’ve fallen behind peers in various Newport News School. All work is in 1:1 setting just outside the classroom doors. It’s FUN and EASY!
