The Memenchville-guitar-club-nn-state-of-city-address-11-of-14nchville guitar chamber ensemble is composed of 8 young people who range from grades 9 through 12. The group performed at the “State of the City” luncheon held in Newport News. They were able to play for numerous dignitaries such as the Newport News mayor, the city manager, and the president/CEO of the Virginia Peninsula Chamber of Commerce.

The group is led by Pete Mercier who has been with the group for 11 years. “Community Knights has helped us be able to get the equipment needed…which makes it easier for us to travel and perform.”menchville-guitar-club-nn-state-of-city-address-5-of-14

“It takes a lot of practice, but its fun.”, said Kylee Barnes an 11th grade participant. Barnes says the group is fun and exciting yet challenging. The Menchville students that participle in the guitar ensemble all dedicate numerous hours of afterschool time just to learn extra music to play!

Another student, Matthew Scarberry, told us that practice is very important and that is what will help him continue to play after he graduates this year. All of the participants exhibit great dedication to their craft and it shows in their performance!
