What do you like about your job, Jeremiah? “It’s good!” Jeremiah says with a smile. He enjoys working with kids, blowing bubbles, and cleaning. “The kids and blowing bubbles when they’re crying.” (It supports kids who need help with regulating the sensory experience and with first haircut jitters)
Has this experience helped you for future jobs? “I think it has,” Jeremiah admits. “I don’t know yet…I like fast paced.”
What’s your dream job? Jeremiah lights up: “Chuck E. Cheese! I love it there because of the kids!” His passion for working in a fun, family-friendly environment is obvious, and his current internship is helping build skills for that future goal.
Rahlana, what’s it like working with Jeremiah? “He pretty much knows what to do,” Rahlana explains. “He’s good with the bubbles, and sweeping the floor. He likes to learn, and if he needs help he asks for it, which I appreciate.”
As a seasoned skills trainer, Rahlana has worked with multiple students, but each one brings something unique. What have you learned through working with students like Jeremiah? “Each kid is different, and you have to approach each one differently” she says. “I really like to read student descriptions because it’s my quick intro and help me to map out how to approach, but it’s the small things to get comfortable and used to me and build rapport.”
