We believe that a major role we have in the larger community is to make it more inclusive and equitable.

Since our founding in 2009, CK has known that the secret to a thriving community relies on connections and collaboration. We also recognize that when the most vulnerable members of our society are connected and contributing to their local community, the quality of life for everyone improves. As such, we know that by leveraging the talents and resources of different segments of the region, we can improve the quality of life for every person on the Virginia Peninsula. This is our vision for a truly inclusive community.

Building a truly inclusive community requires removing barriers, and CK naturally does this through collaboration with local community partners. Our primary programming provides real workplace experiences to people living with developmental, physical, and intellectual disabilities. We also ensure that these individuals have safe and reliable transportation for these experiences.

Through personal and professional experiences, our team has a deep understanding of and investment in the disability community. We have witnessed the life-changing benefits of the work we accomplish, and continue to grow in the breadth and depth of our partnerships in the community. We seek and attract problem-solvers with a passion for driving real change, and focus on individualized solutions for high-quality results. We will continue to innovate, understanding that there is no one-size-fits-all solution for any person regardless of a disability diagnosis.

CK achieves our mission with community collaboration. Our work puts the participant in the driver’s seat for pursuing their career goals by providing support through a collaborative approach. Collaboration is the result of partnerships with local school systems and the Virginia Department of Aging & Rehabilitative Services (DARS) and with the support of the students’ families, the resources to create a truly inclusive community come from its invested members.
